Your Ibiza adventure begins the moment you touch down at Aeroport d’Eivissa. For UK travellers accustomed to large, sprawling hubs like Heathrow, Ibiza Airport is refreshingly compact and easy to navigate, but it can get extremely busy during the summer peaks.
Upon arrival, the first thing you will notice is the heat. The airport is well-air-conditioned, but the walk to the taxi rank or bus stop can be a shock. If you have booked a package holiday, look for your representative in the arrivals hall; they will guide you to a coach.
The Taxi Rank is located directly outside the arrivals terminal. In the height of summer, the queue can look daunting, but it moves quickly. Official taxis are metered, and there are fixed prices displayed for trips to major resorts. Note that Ibiza taxis generally only take four passengers; if you are a larger group, you will need to take two cars or pre-book a private minivan transfer.
For a more economical route, the L10 bus runs from the airport to the main bus station in Ibiza Town every 20-30 minutes. From there, you can catch connecting buses to almost anywhere on the island. It is the cheapest way to start your trip and a great way to see the landscape.
If you plan on exploring the hidden coves and inland villages, Car Rental is highly recommended. Most major international agencies have desks at the airport, but many “off-site” local companies offer better rates and will meet you with a shuttle.
Pro tip: book your car well in advance. During peak season, the island can literally run out of rental cars, and “walk-up” prices are astronomical. Having your own wheels gives you the freedom to escape the tourist traps and find your own slice of Mediterranean paradise.
